Our mission is simple but zealous…

Special Spaces Wisconsin creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening medical illnesses. This is a place that only the child can dream or imagine while addressing their medical needs. Our focus is to answer one question; Where does a child go when battling a serious illness to heal, find comfort and peace…?

Our focus is on those children suffering from cancer, brain tumors, organ transplants and life threatening heart conditions.

How much does it cost to receive a bedroom makeover?

Dream bedrooms provided by Special Spaces are created with no cost to the family.

What is considered a life-threatening illnesses?

Our focus is on those children suffering from cancer, brain tumors, organ transplants and life threatening heart conditions.

What ages do you serve?

Special Spaces serves dependent children from the ages of 2-18.

Who can submit the child’s application?

At this time, application requests can be submitted by email from family, friends or medical staff who is familiar with the child.

What happens after a child’s application is submitted?

Completed applications are considered on a first come first serve basis. Once a complete application is received it is reviewed for approval by the Child Sourcing Committee. If approved, a home interview is scheduled with the child and family.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Decisions are based on the severity of the child’s life threatening illness, age, county of residence, and how the child fits our mission. Special Spaces also reserves the right to make selections/decisions based on other factors deemed appropriate. Special Spaces does not base any decision of acceptance on income level, race, religion or gender.

How long until I know if my child was selected?

A typical approval period is approximately four to six weeks.

What is Special Spaces privacy policy with families?

Special Spaces respects the privacy of the child and family. It requires all of its’ staff and volunteers who come in contact with the family to sign a confidentiality agreement pledging not to reveal privileged information learned about the family and not to contact the family at a later date.
